A series of looping, twisted ribbons that I plotted for the December 2022 Plotter Twitter Postcard Exchange (#PTPX). Every postcard has a different ribbon, or sometimes two ribbons. I sent out over 12 cards this time. Thank you for organizing the exchange, @paulgb!
Follow the "source code" link at the top right to check out the sketch and play around with the parameters and the camera yourself. I added comments at the top to explain the main controls. There is a lot of variety to explore in here.
More about the line-hiding approach at work: aka-gabor.xyz/texts/webgl-line-hiding/
I particularly enjoy the ones with 0.5, 1.5 etc. twists: those are Moebius strips! Unfortunately with Moebius strips the diagonal lines of the mesh don't match up at the back. You need to find a camera angle where the seam is hidden from view :)
I have plotted my ribbons with a simple fountain pen, using Atlantic Blue and Australia Red ink.
